About Grant

I make furniture because I love the wood, love to make, and love the fact that what I make becomes part of people’s daily lives. Most of my work is to commission, making one-off pieces to the highest level of craftsmanship, and aiming for a balance and simplicity in design which sits well in contemporary and traditional surroundings.
For 20 years I made wildlife radio programmes at the BBC Natural History Unit, but eventually my need to make tangible, beautiful objects got the better of me and I trained with the furniture designer maker David Savage before setting up my own workshop on the edge of the Cotswolds. My inspiration still comes from the natural world. You can see some of my Nature photography at the für Natur website. On the walk to work I’ll catch sight of something – the sunlight on coppiced Hazel or fallen leaves on the stream – and start wondering how these shapes might influence the design of a chair or table.
